Netflix is heading back to Night City. We just don’t know when. We don’t even know what the streamer is going to do when it returns there. And we definitely don’t know if this new animated story is connected to the site’s previous anime series set in the video game world. The streamer and CD Projekt Red released a “special announcement” trailer for a mysterious new Cyberpunk project. They just didn’t share any details about it.

As part of this year’s digital Geeked Week event Netflix revealed it’s getting back into Cyberpunk 2077‘s world of technology and body modification. This new animated series will seemingly just be known as Cyberpunk without any year designation just yet.

And that’s about all we actually know about it! The streaming site and CDPR only said “more info” is “coming soon.”

With so few/any details, the lack of information might be more telling. This will not be the first animated show from the franchise to debut at Netflix. In 2022 the two companies released Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated miniseries based on CD Projekt Red’s video game. That ten-episode season told the story of “a street kid trying to survive in Night City” by becoming “a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.” This brief teaser also makes no mention of Studio Trigger, which was behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Netflix

It’s certainly possible this new series could have a direct connection to the previous one, either through recurring characters or plot. The change in title and a complete lack of nods towards it has us lenaing towards this new show being an all-new thing. We’ll just have to wait to find out.

In the meantime, fans of the franchise can celebrate the total turnaround it has undergone since the original game’s less than stellar debut. It did not initially live up to its highly anticipated release. (To put it kindly.) Yet here it is about to have another anime spinoff series. The fact we don’t know anything about it doesn’t change how telling that fact is.

Arcane season two is bringing a new fighter into the ring. The animated Netflix series is also bringing an unorthodox release schedule to the platform. During Geeked Week, we got an Arcane season two trailer and the clip gives us a peek into all the upcoming action. Fans are clearly excited about this next season, as evidenced by 940,000+ views and a plethora of comments. And who wouldn’t be considering the show’s stacked cast and its rave reviews for the first season.

Here’s a quick word (not sure a synopsis) about Arcane season two to go along with this action-packed trailer:

From Riot Games, Arcane returns this November on Netflix. The animated series, based on the League of Legends game and one of Netflix’s most successful animated series ever, is created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee. Executive producers include Linke, Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck. The Animation Studio is Fortiche Production. Voices include Hailee Steinfeld (Vi), Annie Award winner Ella Purnell (Jinx) and Katie Leung (Caitlyn), Reed Shannon (Ekko), Amirah Vann (Sevika), Mick Wingert (Heimerdinger), and Ellen Thomas (Ambessa), and Brett Tucker (Singed) among others to be announced. Fortiche directed and produced the animation, under the direction of the founders Pascal Charrue and Arnaud Delord.

This final chapter of Arcane will take place over the course of three acts. Act 1 drops on November 9, Act 2 drops on November 16, and Act 3 drops on November 23 on Netflix.

Hello, fellow storm clouds. Wednesday season two is getting closer each day with Jenna Ortega and her comrades currently filming the popular series. Things are truly back in swing at Nevermore Academy as Wednesday continues to investigate the school’s many mysteries while dealing with typical teen issues. To celebrate Netflix’s Geeked Week, the streaming service gave us the gift of a Wednesday season two behind the scenes clip.

In it, we get to see our favorite sharp-tongued Addams family member, her bestie Enid, her kooky parentals, Bianca, and more characters. The clip promises that this season will be bigger and twisted beyond our wildest dreams. Of course, we didn’t get to see much more because, as Wednesday says, it would make our eyes bleed. We get some glimpses of people in school uniforms and explosive moments that make us want to see it right now.

What Is the Release Date for Wednesday Season 2?

Right now, we don’t know when Wednesday season two will hit Netflix. We can only assume it will come our way sometime in 2025. But we cannot wait to see our favorite students once again. And we also want to see Billie Piper. Please, please always give us lots of Billie Piper.

In the meantime, you can always pre-order some Wednesday LEGO sets and work on your latest build or catch the show’s first season (again) on Netflix.

What Do THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY Season 3 Episode Titles Mean? https://nerdist.com/article/what-do-umbrella-academy-season-3-episode-titles-mean/ Tue, 07 Jun 2022 21:09:55 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=818259 Geeked Week presented the episode titles for The Umbrella Academy's upcoming third season. But what clues are hidden in each?

The post What Do THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY Season 3 Episode Titles Mean? appeared first on Nerdist.

]]>

During Geeked Week 2021, Netflix gave us our first bits of information about The Umbrella Academy season three. Back then, we were young and innocent. We didn’t know anything about what to expect from these titles. Sure, we got hype about episode four’s title “Kugelblitz” because it is a real science term that refers to a concentration of light, heat, or radiation so intense that it becomes self-trapped, forming a black hole. But the rest were a bit of a mystery back then. Now, with several trailers and information about the Sparrow Academy, we have a better idea of what The Umbrella Academy episode titles mean. And just about every one of them hints at some big events and ties to the comics.

“Meet the Family”
photo of the sparrow academy from the umbrella academy season three release date june 22
Netflix

This one seems pretty self explanatory at this point. We know that our Umbrella siblings are back in their timeline and realizing that things are still not right at all. It’s pretty likely that this episode will center around them meeting the Sparrow Academy members. Must really suck to come home and it’s not your home.

“World’s Biggest Ball of Twine”
Umbrella Academy season 3 or three reveal the Hargreeves walking
Netflix

We know that this show is all about very messy timelines. And things are messier than ever with the Sparrows in effect and time in flux. The crew will have to unwind the continuous mess they are making to see if they can set time back right. That is, if that’s the right thing to do at this point.

“Pocket Full of Lightning”

This episode hint, specifically lightning bolts, obviously mean something in The Umbrella Academy season three. We have seen bolts of lightning from cast and crew posts. But the most interesting place is on Christopher’s character poster. The ominous telekinetic cube has a ton of lightning bolts around it, so they are possibly connected to the character. Christopher can manipulate temperature so perhaps he is Storm-like and will bring lightning to a foe.

“Kugelblitz”

As previously mentioned, Kugelblitz has an actual real world meaning. But in the trailer, Five (who is alive in this new reality) says going back to future in a time paradox is consuming parts of reality. He surmises that their time traveling and world saving (ha) exploits causes the “kugelblitz.” Bascially, it means they are screwed, in Five’s words. We also see the possible manifestation of it with a bright ball of swirling light that they probably shouldn’t touch. Will it become a black hole eating away at Earth? Maybe.

“Kindest Cut”
Umbrella Academy first look images, members of the team looking suprised
Netflix

We cannot be 100% sure about any of these episode titles. (Well, except maybe one.) But this one might be in reference to “unkindest cut,” an idiom used when someone has deeply insulted/betrayed a person to their great detriment. If so, kindest cut may be the opposite of that with someone doing something to defend another person. This is halfway through the season so a heartbreaking death—perhaps sacrificial?—could happen here.

“Marigold”
What Do THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY Season 3 Episode Titles Mean?_1

Marigold may also seem like a random episode title name for fans of the show. But comic readers will recognize it as the moniker for the yellow energy source that gave the siblings their powers. We actually saw this jar of particles in a flashback scene with Reginald during season one. In this season, perhaps we are getting more backstory or there is a reason to wheel out some remaining particles.

“Auf Wiedersehen”
Klaus holds an umbrella

This German phrase means goodbye. Who (or what?) is saying goodbye? There’s no way to really know for sure but Klaus does have a goodbye tattoo. Please don’t kill off our weird cult-leading pal. A few Sparrows or Brellies may bid farewell to try to fix what’s going on. Or it could be the official goodbye for someone who gives their life for the sake of fixing this time mess once and for all.

“Wedding at the End of the World”
What Do THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY Season 3 Episode Titles Mean?_2
Netflix

How in the world will they throw a wedding in here? Will Viktor or Diego take the big plunge? Maybe. We bet this will be one heck of an event.

“Six Bells”
Umbrella Academy season 3 or three - The Sparrows' leader, Marcus, reaches towards something lit up
Netflix

Umbrella Academy creatives, you are a tricky bunch. You’ve got us stumped with this episode title. We don’t know what these bells could mean or why there are six of them. But it is the penultimate episode so things will go awry.

“Oblivion”

We got recent confirmation in a couple teasers and The Umbrella Academy season three trailer that this episode title is probably referring to Hotel Oblivion, a very important location in the comics. For those who don’t know, Hotel Oblivion is essentially this universe’s version of Arkham—a prison created by good ole Dad to house the Umbrella Academy siblings’ enemies.

However, the Umbrella Academy show seems to be switching it up a bit, calling it Hotel Obsidian and having it be a temporary home base for the Brellies. Now, this could be a simple switch up to deviate from the comics while still giving us a wink at that location. But, considering this episode title, this is more than likely a place that isn’t what it seems. It might be this reality’s Hotel Oblivion with darker things to arise there. Who knows.

The great thing is, we don’t have to wait very long to discover the answers. The Umbrella Academy will deliver all its season three episodes on June 22.

THE SANDMAN Drops Dreamy New Trailer https://nerdist.com/article/sandman-first-trailer-netflix-neil-gaiman/ Mon, 06 Jun 2022 17:34:22 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=914158 We finally got our first teaser for Netflix's The Sandman, based on the graphic novel by Neil Gaiman. And it looks perfect.

]]>

After what seems like an eternity in limbo, Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel The Sandman has finally debuted a new teaser. The crowning moment of the first day of Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022, the teaser gives us a great look at Tom Sturridge as Dream, a.k.a. Morpheus, a.k.a. The King of Dreams. And not only do we see him, he looks exactly like he does in the comics. It’s definitely only a teaser, but we won’t have too long to wait. The series will debut on Netflix on August 5.

Sturridge looks perfect, but he’s certainly not the only big character we see in the teaser. We get to see a brief shot of Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Morpheus’ kinder sister. I mean, yes, she’s the actual Grim Reaper, but she’s nice. Howell-Baptiste herself describes Death as “someone you’d like to have a beer with,” which is always the sign of a good Death.

We also see Lucienne the Librarian played by Vivienne Acheampong, looking perfectly studious. We get a few glimpses of the sprawling vistas of the the Dreaming, the mystical realm which Morpheus rules, plus a shot of Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer looking absolutely divine. Boyd Holbrook’s Corinthian with his bleeding eyes finishes us up.

Netflix

Interestingly, the character who gets the most screen time in the teaser is Johanna Constantine, played by Jenna Coleman. Johanna is an ancestor of John Constantine, and similarly an occult detective. She’ll play both the character in 2021 and her own ancestor in the 18th Century. After seeing Coleman’s Clara Oswald try to become the Doctor during her time on Doctor Who, it’s outstanding to see her get to step into a similar, if gruffer role.

The cast for this show is truly massive and this teaser only shows us a few. But with a 12-episode run, they have plenty of Dream’s world, and his weird family, the Endless, to explore. August 5 can’t get here soon enough!

Netflix Unveils Cast of LEAGUE OF LEGENDS Animated Series ARCANE https://nerdist.com/article/arcane-animated-series-league-of-legends-netflix/ Tue, 21 Sep 2021 19:59:20 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=819143 Netflix offered a cast list and character posters for Arcane, the animated series set in the world of the League of Legends game.

The sprawling world of League of Legends is a testament to the gaming community’s imagination. The game was famously inspired by a modification applied to the 2002 hit RTS Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos; in seven years’ time, a new game altogether was born. And now, from said game, we get another brand new way to explore fantastical terrain and mythos. In 2019, Netflix announced production on Arcane, an animated series set in the League of Legends world. And now, by way of Netflix’s Geeked Week, we have our first taste of this new adventure.

Error occurred!

Though this is only our first substantial peek at Arcane, the project is actually overdue. Netflix had originally planned for a 2020 release for the animated series. Naturally, the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic preempted said plans. But now, Netflix is read to carry forth with Arcane; the show is expected to hit the streaming service this year.

Netflix also unveiled the impressive voice cast for the series, along with character posters.

Leading this project is animator Ash Brannon; he has worked on movies including The Little Mermaid, the first two Toy Story films, and Surf’s Up. This will be Brannon’s first foray into the television world. It will also mark a notable shift in tone for the filmmaker, as Arcane promises a bit more grit and severity than the titles mentioned.

Netflix

In addition to the above teaser clip, Netflix also offered an in-depth Q&A between Geoff Keighley and Arcane co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee. They discuss everything from the characters to the relationships, to bringing the unique League of Legends experience to episodic television.

Set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story follows the origins of two iconic League champions-and the power that will tear them apart. Vi and Jinx, the aforementioned champions, have a unique rivalry that makes them perfect for a story set in the League of Legends universe.

Arcane will launch sometime in the fall of 2021. Check out some more images from the series below!

Netflix Drops First Look at THE CUPHEAD SHOW! https://nerdist.com/article/cuphead-show-netflix-geeked-week/ Fri, 11 Jun 2021 18:19:52 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=819141 During Geeked Week, Netflix shared the first look at The Cuphead Show!, the new animated series derived from the hit 2017 video game.

The post Netflix Drops First Look at THE CUPHEAD SHOW! appeared first on Nerdist.

]]>

Even if you’re not a video game person per se, you’ve likely found something to marvel at in Cuphead. When the platformer first released via Windows and the Xbox One in 2017, it drew attention for its remarkable animation. Cuphead’s aesthetic resembles the artwork of early 20th century Walt Disney and Fleischer Studios cartoons; when couriered to the gaming medium, this visual style becomes all the more enchanting. (And, in the case of its many big bosses, considerably more haunting.) Periodically over the past few years, the game has made its way to macOS, the Nintendo Switch, and the PlayStation 4. And now it will find new life altogether as a television series for Netflix.

Netflix announced its development of The Cuphead Show! back in 2019. The streaming service’s Geeked Week extravaganza gives us our first proper look at the series, which you can enjoy below.

This look confirms that The Cuphead Show! maintains the visual panache—and the haunting vibe—of the game. News out of the Geeked Week broadcast is that improv legend Wayne Brady will voice the nefarious King Dice. Our brief look at the character shows him putting on a sinister-looking show for the varied anthropomorphic objects of the Cuphead world. And it appears that the audience members will most likely end up the victims of whatever King Dice is really up to.

CupHead and MugMan look afraid of a large dastardly flower with a sharp-toothed grin.

Studio MDHR

The Cuphead Show! has enlisted directors in Clayton Morrow, who has worked on Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls, and Adam Paloian, a longtime member of the SpongeBob SquarePants crew. The Cuphead video game creators Chad and Jared Moldenhauer will serve as executive producers.

How many songs will Wayne Brady’s King Dice sing? Will the comedian’s Whose Line co-stars Colin Mochrie, Ryan Styles, Aisha Tyler (or even Drew Carey!) make a guest appearance as doomed audience members? Hopefully we’ll learn more soon.

You may call it strategic, or you may call it sadistic, but Netflix waited until the very end of its Geeked Week extravaganza to give us even a taste of what’s yet to come for The Witcher. On Friday, the streaming site dropped the quickest imaginable teaser for the next season of the fantasy series, which you can view below… if you’ve got the vision of a predatory bird, that is.

Alas, there is only so much to glean from a first glance of this clip… but we’re in the business of second, third, and fortieth glances, aren’t we? So we’ll be poring over this fast-as-heck look to figure out what clues are embedded within.

A CASTLEVANIA Spinoff Series Is Coming to Netflix https://nerdist.com/article/a-castlevania-spinoff-series-coming-to-netflix/ Fri, 11 Jun 2021 16:36:34 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=819186 Castlevania's world will continue on Netflix with a spinoff series set during the French Revolution starring Sypha and Trevor's son Ritcher Belmont.

The post A CASTLEVANIA Spinoff Series Is Coming to Netflix appeared first on Nerdist.

]]>

Netflix’s Geeked Week is ending with quite a bang. The streaming service has been delivering fun news all week long and the final day is no different. A surprise announcement came through and it will make Castlevania fans happy. Everyone thought the show was a wrap with its fourth and final season currently streaming. While that is still true, this rich and expansive world will continue on with a spinoff series.

The Castlevania spinoff will center around Richter Belmont, who is Sypha and Trevor’s distant grandson as well as Maria Renard. For those who may not be familiar, Maria is a popular character from the Castlevania game series. She is a vampire huntress and a distant relative of the Belmont family. Maria is Richter’s accomplice in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and they later link up with Alucard for an adventure.

So, perhaps this series will borrow from the action and quests in that game. The television series will be set in France during the French Revolution in 1792. There is no word on the show’s title nor when we can expect to see our first glimpse of the series.

a photo of castlevania characters trevor, sypha, and alucard walking side by side

Netflix

But it is quite exciting news. And, it seems that this might not be the only Castlevania content coming soon. In Netflix’s live stream, the show’s creatives said that we are “far from done” with this world so perhaps there will be other things to explore in the future. Perhaps there will be a chance to dive into different backstories or perhaps continue the Dracula/Lisa storyline. They will never die so they might as well come back, right?

But what we really want is more along the lines of bringing game characters like Maria to television and exploring this world during different time periods. Either way, it is beyond exciting to know that there is more Castlevania content on the way.
